The importance of choosing a beneficiary
Life insurance is about more than a policy. It is about people, and making sure the people your clients care about are protected when it matters most.
Life Insurance Awareness Month is a natural time to help clients look at one of the most important details of their coverage: their beneficiary designations.
A beneficiary designation determines who will receive a life insurance policy’s death benefit. Clear, accurate choices can help make sure the money goes where the policy owner intended, while helping reduce the potential for delays, disagreements or unintended outcomes.
We’ve created two new pieces specifically to help agents and clients navigate these conversations and decisions.
Keep the conversation going
A beneficiary decision should not necessarily be treated as a one-time event. Has life changed since they last checked? Marriage. Divorce. A new child. The loss of a loved one. The Beneficiary Designation Guide encourages clients to review their designations every year and after major life changes.
Life Insurance Awareness Month gives agents a timely reason to initiate that review. A simple question such as, “When was the last time you reviewed your beneficiaries?” can uncover opportunities to make sure a client’s policy still reflects their current family circumstances and intentions.
Be prepared
